Dr. Erin Barnes earned her doctoral degree from the University of Iowa in 2011. She recently changed roles from a faculty position to a professional and scientific position as a program coordinator. Barnes currently coordinates the University of Iowa’s CIRTL (Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning) project. Prior to leaving her academic position, Barnes’ research focused on cultural diversity, with an emphasis on vulnerable and at-risk populations. She was widely recognized for her community engagement work, earning her the “Rehabilitation Professional of the Year” award for the State of Texas in 2016, and also a nomination for the University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award that same year. In her current role with CIRTL, Barnes’ research agenda surrounds the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
